Starting over? A new beginning?
I’m not sure that I want to do this – to actually restart the blog that has been inactive since September 2020. For some time, I’ve thought about and talked about the restart of my blog with my spiritual director, my coach, my husband . . . yet I haven’t acted on it. I don’t know why. Maybe I’m afraid that I will not be consistent in writing, or I will not have anything to say or no one will read it or well, you name the reason.
In January 2023, I began a journey in the Academy of Spiritual Formation, an experience that I’ve wanted to participate in for 30 years. It’s never been the right time – until last year.
The Academy brings together people from all over the country to meet for 8 one-week sessions to worship together, learn from gifted faculty, reflect in silence, share in covenant groups and experience the power of God in this holy rhythm of life together.
In the first year of the Academy, we focused on our inner journeys in Christ. In this second year, we are focusing on the outer journey. How is the work that Christ is doing inside of me being seen on the outside? Academy materials share Bob Mulholland’s definition of spiritual formation as “the process of being formed in the image of Christ for the sake of others for the sake of the world.”
We are nearing the end of our journey in the Academy – only one more session in November. (Can you hear me sniffling?) In this journey, I have been inspired, encouraged and challenged to offer some sign of God’s continuing work in me. Maybe this inactive blog is a way to do that.
So I’m activating. I don’t know how often I will write or what I will write.
The only thing I do know: I named the blog, “Something More: Seeking the More of God,” when I started it around 2011. And this name still rings true for me! I continue to seek the more of God – “the power at work within us, able to accomplish abundantly far more than all we can ask or imagine” (Eph 3:20). This is my prayer. This is my covenant commitment.
